Doula Support

Doulas can offer you support during all the different phases of your journey - during pregnancy, labour, birth and postpartum.  Below I have written short explanations of how you can expect me to support you at the different times.

Prenatal support

Navigating pregnancy and getting ready for birth can be overwhelming.  During my prenatal support sessions we spend time discussing and supporting your needs to be as prepared as possible for your birth;  helping you with writing your birth preference list, helping you understand medical jargon and the different options you have. We look at different methods of labour induction, comfort measures and types of interventions.  We look at how to prepare for home and hospital birth, and we discussion how to prepare for the postpartum time.  I also spend some time with the birth partner to help them know how to support you and themselves. Whether you opt for the complete prenatal package or individual, personalised sessions, I'm dedicated to empower you with knowledge and confidence as you go through pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Birth support

Birth support includes guidance and information during your pregnancy, in person emotional, physical and informational support during birth, and checking in during your post partum time.

I believe that the best way to prepare for birth is to be informed.  Knowing what your choices are, knowing the benefits and risks of the different options, and trusting your instincts in making the right, informed decision.  Preparing for birth is not about having the perfect birth, it is about having the knowledge, the muscle memory and the support so that no matter what happens, you are empowered and confident enough to stay in control.

Birth support is also about preparing for the postpartum period.  Looking at what the things are that might be challenging, and finding ways to minimalise these challenges.

Postpartum support

In the Netherlands you are lucky to have Kraamzorg come to your house for the first week after birth.  But what happens when Kraamzorg leaves, and you still feel overwhelmed or unsure?  Or what if you don't get the support that you need from Kraamzorg?

This is where I come in as a postpartum and infant care doula.  With my compassionate presence and expertise I can guide you and your partner though this time of change.  Not only was a baby born, but a new mom and dad was also born.

My main goal is to help you with your well being; healing, bonding and adjusting to this new time.  Maybe you need someone to keep an eye on the newborn as you take a bath and have a rest.  Or maybe you need someone to help you prepare some healthy snacks and dishes for the week.  I can be a shoulder to cry on and I can give you tips on how to navigate the postpartum time.
