Imagine this 🌱

You wake up in the middle of the night from contractions. The day you've been waiting for is finally here. You’re going into labour and soon will give birth to a perfect new baby boy or girl. You are excited, perhaps a little bit scared.

But luckily you are prepared. You have spent a few hours every week preparing your body and brain for this day.

You have educated yourself.

You know what a "typical birth" looks and feels like, but you also understand how your birth could potentially vary from this.

You know what your options are, and you have written down your wishes. Your partner and doula also know your wishes by heart, and you know that they will have your back.

You've been doing your breathing exercises, so your body automatically breathes as you have trained it.

You feel confident, and your brain automatically starts repeating your favourite affirmations as the contractions get more intense. Your birth doula and your partner support you by repeating your affirmations when you start to struggle, giving you renewed energy, and reminding you of how strong you are.

And you're in a safe space. It doesn't matter if it's your living room or in a hospital. You can smell the familiar scents of your favourite essential oil, and the soft sounds of your favourite song, while you rest your head on your best-loved pillow.

This is your time, and you are so ready for it ❣️

Do you have a happy place?

I've had a few through-out my life.
Growing up my happy place was the netball court or the dancefloor. When I was playing netball or doing my dances (from rhythmic gymnastics and modern dance, to ballroom and lekker south African sokkie) all my problems and worries would just go away for that moment, and I would find pure joy.

Now, one of my happy places are sunsets. Specifically South African ones, because they are just always so spectacular, and because I am very often surrounded by nature when I take the time to just be in that moment.

And of course, as a photographer these moments are just incredible. It is not called golden hour for no reason, I can just feel the magic when I do a shoot during golden hour.

Sometimes you might see a post from me that says "She did it! She got her unmedicated birth!" But just because I'm celebrating with her that she got her ideal birth, does not mean I am not going to celebrate just has hard with you and your choice, whatever that might be.

All birth preferences are welcome.

No, you can also be the child and bring your mom. Age doesn't matter.

Her mum flew in from Indonesia to be here for the birth of their beautiful baby. I am so close with my mum, but we also live countries apart. So, moments like these are just extra special to me.
